Morning workshop: “Go For Baroque”. 10:30 to noon. Arrive at 10am to get set up and tuned. This workshop takes an in-depth look at this glorious period of musical composition in which great composers wrote a large amount of music for every instrument except the harp. We will explore the reasons for this omission, and examine the relatively small body of music that actually was written for the harp during this time. More importantly, we will examine the wealth of transcriptions for lever and pedal harp that now make it possible for us to perform all the Baroque music we could ever want. Performance practice, trills, and other fun things will be discussed as we seek to bring this beautiful music alive on modern lever and pedal harps. All levels, lecture and hands-on.

Lunch break: Noon to One. We suggest bringing a sack lunch. Water and cookies provided.

Afternoon workshop: “Gregorian Chant for the Harp” 1pm to 2:30 PM With the recent surge of interest in Gregorian chant, many people are rediscovering this most ancient form of sung prayer. We will look at the origins of Gregorian chant and see its fundamental role in the shaping of Western sacred music. These simple and beautifully profound melodies lend themselves well to being played on the harp, and this workshop will explore how to do this as well as examining existing arrangements. All levels, lecture and hands-on.
