Who Is David Kolacny?...and why should you care what he thinks?Hello, my name is David Kolacny and I have the best job in the world! I grew up an artistic kid in a musical family and went in lots of directions before the harp entered my life. Having this business allows me to use my skills as a repairman, artist, and writer. I get to use my love of music and musical instruments every minute of every day! I really get to know and make a difference in the lives of some truly wonderful people, my customers! I learned the music business from my Grandfather and Father. I learned that if you want your business to last 75+ years, you do it by taking good care of your customers. You make the repair shop the center of your business, and use the knowledge you gain while repairing, to temper every other aspect of your business. I learned about the lever harp along side my friend Robert Bunker (legendary harp maker and creator of the "Loveland Sharping Lever" ). I paid my dues in the "political" harp world by serving as both National Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of the American Harp Society. I am currently National Exhibit Chairman for AHS Conferences, a position that keeps me in contact with all aspects of the harp world. I learned to regulate pedal harps from Ed Galchick when he was head of service at Lyon & Healy. Over the years I received additional training and advice from Dale Barco and Peter Wiley. I am a member or the Harp Technicians Guild and work on every make of instrument. We average 200 lever harps on rent (sorry, we don't rent out of state). Keeping these harps in shape and seeing the common problems of harp students, has given me some very real insights into the needs of students and teachers. I am the author of "The Harps Nouveau Introduction to Harps" and "Trouble Shooting Your Lever Harp". I also do the art for "Uncle Knuckles" the American Harp Society's publication for young harpists. My proudest accomplishment is the respect the harp community has both for myself and for our business. We never take it for granted. |
